Separate the camshaft from the cam-drive parts
Check the item type and supplied quantity before comparing listings. A camshaft, a cam chain and a set of cams cover different requirements. Use the full model, year and variant, and read any notes for the engine configuration you are working with.
Compare the stated purpose of each camshaft
Where a camshaft has a stage designation, read the manufacturer's description for the exact reference. Compare its intended use and any required supporting parts with your engine specification. Browse valves and parts for related components or return to valves and cams for both ranges.
Should I choose a camshaft by its stage number?
Use the stage number to find the manufacturer's description, then compare the stated purpose and application requirements. Do not choose from the number alone or assume that a higher number is the right choice for your engine and intended use.
Are inlet and exhaust camshafts sold together?
Check the listing's position, selling unit and contents. A reference labelled inlet or exhaust may cover only that position; confirm whether a set contains both before ordering. Match each required camshaft to its own application notes.
Does a camshaft listing include a cam chain?
Do not assume a chain or other cam-drive part is included. Read the supplied-parts list and compare it with the parts needed for the planned work. Check any separately ordered chain against its own engine application and stated specification.
Can I keep the existing valves and springs with a different camshaft?
Confirm the exact camshaft manufacturer's requirements before choosing parts. Check any stated conditions for valves, springs and other supporting components against what is fitted to your engine. A vehicle match alone does not confirm a modified combination.
Compare the complete model, year and part number before choosing a part.
