Start with the required specification

Use the vehicle handbook and the fitted brake manufacturer's guidance to identify the required fluid. Compare that full specification with the fluid manufacturer's information. A familiar brand, a racing label or a higher number in the name does not establish suitability for your system.

Check the quantity and the fitted system

Read the container volume and number supplied; these are different from the amount required for a particular job. Use the relevant service information to establish the quantity needed. If the master cylinder or brake lines have been changed, confirm the fluid requirements for the fitted components as well.

Can I choose any fluid labelled DOT 4?

Compare the complete published specification with the vehicle and brake-system requirements. Check any additional designation or manufacturer restriction; the short label alone should not replace the required specification check.

Are different brake-fluid types interchangeable?

Do not assume interchangeability from similar names or adjacent DOT numbers. Follow the vehicle, brake-system and fluid manufacturers' instructions for the exact products. This category does not establish that two fluids can be substituted or mixed.

Does a racing label mean the fluid is right for my quad bike?

Check the exact fluid specification and stated application. The word racing is not a vehicle compatibility statement and does not override the requirements for the fitted brakes.

Does one bottle contain the amount I need?

Compare the stated bottle volume and supplied quantity with the amount specified for the intended work. Container size is a purchasing detail, not a universal brake-system capacity or service quantity.

Compare the complete model, year and part number before choosing a part.
