Select a fuse by its specification
Use the vehicle or circuit documentation to identify the required fuse format, current rating and voltage rating. Match the dimensions and terminal style as well as the electrical specification. Do not substitute a higher current rating simply because a fuse has blown; establishing the cause is a separate job from buying the correct replacement.
Match sockets to the component and mounting
For a bulb socket, compare the bulb base, contacts and mounting arrangement. For a relay socket, confirm the relay type and terminal layout. A similar housing does not establish compatibility. Browse lights for the lamp side of the job and wiring for separately required leads or connectors.
Can I select a fuse by colour alone?
Check the marked rating and exact fuse format against the vehicle specification. Colour can be a useful identifier, but it should not replace those checks or confirmation of the correct dimensions.
Is a higher-rated fuse a stronger replacement?
Choose the current rating specified for the circuit. A higher rating is not an upgrade to the correct replacement fuse, and it should not be used to address repeated fuse failure.
Does a relay socket include the relay?
Only if the supplied contents expressly say so. The same applies to bulbs and bulb sockets: identify each required component rather than assuming the connected part comes with the socket.
How many fuses come in a pack or assortment?
Use the stated pack quantity and contents for the exact reference. For an assortment, check which fuse formats and ratings it contains. The wider electrical parts category groups other components needed for separately identified work.
Compare the complete model, year and part number before choosing a part.
