Start with the filter's care requirements

Check the instructions for the exact filter, including any replacement filter fitted since the vehicle was new. Foam-filter oil should be selected for its stated use; do not extend that use to a different filter material without confirmation. Browse air intake and filters for replacement filter components.

Check the treatment and cleaner together

Read whether the item is filter oil, cleaner or a treatment for the sealing rim, and buy for the task specified. Check the recommended cleaning product and any drying or preparation requirements before purchase. When comparing bottles and sprays, read the supplied volume and application directions for each.

Does every air filter need oil?

Follow the care instructions for the exact filter. The presence of an air filter does not establish that it should be oiled, and instructions for a foam filter should not be applied to every other material. Confirm the filter type before choosing a treatment.

Can I use engine or transmission oil on a foam filter?

Use a treatment specified for foam air filters and accepted by the filter manufacturer. Twin Air's care guidance calls for purpose-formulated foam-filter oil. The other lubricants in the oils category should be selected for their own stated applications.

Is filter cleaner the same as filter oil?

They serve separate tasks in the filter-care instructions. Read the exact item's description to establish which it supplies, and check that the chosen cleaner suits the filter and its oil. Do not assume a care product includes both unless the contents say so.

Is filter oil used for an engine oil filter?

This category concerns air-filter treatments. For a replacement engine oil filter, use oil filters and match the component to your engine. Follow the vehicle or filter manufacturer's instructions for that separate service task.
