Quad bike transmission oil
Choose transmission oil for the specific compartment being serviced. Check the vehicle manual for the required lubricant, grade and any clutch-related specification; a gearbox, final drive and shared engine-oil system can have different requirements.

Identify the compartment first
Establish whether the work concerns a separate gearbox, a final drive or a transmission that shares the engine's oil. Match the requirement for that exact location before choosing a lubricant. Browse drive parts separately for mechanical components; their fitment does not determine the oil specification.
Compare the full oil requirement
Read the oil's stated application and specifications alongside the vehicle manual, including any wet-clutch requirement. Compare the supplied volume with the service quantity for that compartment. The transmission-oil category name or a familiar grade alone does not confirm suitability for your machine.
Can one oil serve the gearbox and final drive?
Only choose one product for both when its stated applications meet each compartment's requirements. Check them separately in the manual. An oil suitable for a wet-clutch gearbox should not be assumed to meet a final drive's requirement, or the other way round.
Why does my manual specify engine oil for the transmission?
Follow the requirement for the system fitted. Where the manual specifies a suitable engine oil, compare 4-stroke engine oil against that exact grade and specification. Do not replace it with a transmission oil solely because of the category name.
Can I compare engine-oil and gear-oil grade numbers directly?
Engine and gear oils use different viscosity grading systems. A higher-looking number does not establish a thicker or more suitable substitute. Use the grade and specification stated for the compartment, and confirm any proposed alternative from technical information.
Can I top up with a different transmission oil?
Confirm the existing oil and the vehicle and oil manufacturers' requirements before choosing a top-up product. Matching brand or grade alone does not establish that two oils can be mixed. Browse oils if the manual identifies a different lubricant type.
Compare the complete model, year and part number before choosing a part.
